# Dead/Set Index -- Full Site Markdown

> Dead/Set Index is a synthetic concept-testing platform that scores product concepts for purchase intent in roughly four minutes. Submit a concept (text, optional image, price, demographics), and get a 0-100 Dead/Set Index score with a three-tier verdict (Dead, Kinda, or Set), demographic breakdowns, top drivers, top barriers, and the verbatim words of every respondent in the panel.

This document is the comprehensive Markdown reference for the public surface of deadsetindex.com. It is intended for AI agents and language-model context windows, and it intentionally mirrors the product, pricing, and Claude Connector pages already published on the site.

## Site Overview

Dead/Set Index is a paid software product (AUD $149 / $299 / $899 per month, with annual discounts) that lets product, marketing, and brand teams pressure-test concepts before launch. Instead of running a multi-week, $5,000-$50,000 traditional concept-testing study, customers upload a concept, choose an audience, and get a verdict in minutes.

The same platform is exposed to AI agents via a remote MCP server, so any MCP-capable client (Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Cline, Zed, Goose, Continue, MCP Inspector) can submit concepts, poll status, and read results from inside the user's normal conversation flow.

## What is the Dead/Set Index?

The headline question Dead/Set Index answers is simple: **"Will your next concept sell?"** The product replaces the early, expensive screening round of traditional concept testing with a synthetic panel. Customers upload the concept, the platform runs the panel, and they get a Dead/Set Index score plus enough supporting evidence to make a decision.

The product positioning, taken from the live landing page:

- **From Concept to Confidence.** Shift your research budget from testing to execution.
- **Stop wasting $20k+ on mid concepts.** Get deeper insights for a fraction of the cost in minutes.
- **Built for the big calls.** Is the concept dead, or is it set?

### The three-step flow

1. **Input concept.** Upload a product description, packaging design, or marketing copy. No complex setup is required.
2. **Panel analysis.** The platform stress-tests the concept across a wide range of demographics by simulating thousands of diverse consumer personas.
3. **Instant report.** Receive a detailed breakdown of purchase intent, key motivators and barriers, and exactly what each individual said about the concept.

### Why teams use it

- **Screen the pipeline.** Test a dozen early concepts in a single afternoon. Rank them, shortlist the strongest, and kill the rest with data instead of politics.
- **What they think.** Read the unfiltered words of every individual who saw the concept -- the objections, the excitement, the deal-breakers nobody on a real panel would say to your face.
- **Test the story.** Same product, three angles. Discover which framing actually moves people, and read their words to understand why one lands and another falls flat.
- **Aim your spend.** Filter by age, income, gender, and location. Find the segment that scores 75% before you waste a dollar on the one that scores 24%.
- **Win the pitch.** Walk into the room with demographic splits, key drivers, and verbatim quotes. Replace "we believe" with "the data shows."
- **Kill bad ideas fast.** Your team loves it but your gut says no. Confirm or deny in under four minutes, then redirect resources today instead of next quarter.

## What the Dead/Set Index measures

The Dead/Set Index measures **purchase intent** -- the well-established research measure of whether a consumer would buy the product (sometimes referred to in market research as Top-Two-Box, or T2B). The platform produces a single composite score from 0 to 100, mapped to one of three tiers:

- **Dead** -- the concept is unlikely to convert. Either rework it or move on.
- **Kinda** -- the concept is in the middle. There is signal, but also clear barriers worth fixing before launch.
- **Set** -- the concept is in the strong band. Worth investing real budget behind.

The score is paired with a tier label and a "so what" -- an actionable signal, not just a number.

### What you get beyond the score

Every analysis includes:

- **Detailed demographic splits.** See which segments are strongest and which segments are weakest.
- **Key drivers.** What is pulling people toward the concept.
- **Key barriers.** What is holding people back.
- **Verbatim responses.** The actual words of every individual respondent in the panel -- 200 detailed individual responses per test.
- **Share link.** A public, unlisted URL you can hand to a teammate or a stakeholder.
- **Slide deck download.** A presentable export of the result.

A/B and multi-concept comparison views (Professional and Business plans) generate a strategic write-up across two to five concepts, including a markdown export on Business.

## Methodology and validation

Dead/Set Index is built on a published synthetic-panel methodology. Headline numbers, taken directly from the public site:

- **Decision accuracy: 9 out of 10.** Concepts the panel flags as winners go on to outperform the ones it flags as duds, verified across thousands of individual ground-truth data points.
- **Speed advantage: 1000× faster.** A traditional consumer study takes weeks and tens of thousands of dollars. Dead/Set Index delivers the same level of confidence in under four minutes.
- **Built on real behaviour.** The methodology is calibrated against how people actually shop, not how they say they do. The platform was tested against 9,000+ real purchase-behaviour rankings across 50+ products, and achieves roughly 90% of human test-retest reliability.
- **Reproducible.** Same concept in, same answer out, every single time.
- **Detailed.** Scoring you will not find in any traditional concept-testing tool.

Dead/Set Index is positioned as a strong directional signal for **product ranking decisions and iterative optimisation** -- not a sales forecast. The role it plays is to replace the $5K-$50K screening round, not the final validation. Use it to narrow 12 concepts down to 3, optimise the messaging, and kill bad ideas before they ever reach a real human panel; then invest the real consumer-research budget on the few concepts that already have data behind them.

### Cohorts and demographic targeting

Two persona presets are available:

- **Australia weighted** -- Australian Bureau of Statistics weighted distribution across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, and TAS, with the option to target metro-only, regional-only, or both.
- **United States weighted** -- US Census weighted distribution across the four Census regions (Northeast, Midwest, South, West), again with metro/regional toggling.

Customers can layer custom demographic filters on top of either preset (age bands, gender, income, region) and the platform re-weights the panel accordingly. Each test runs the same fixed panel size, so results between tests are directly comparable.

---

## Why it is cheaper

The platform reverse-engineers traditional market research by removing the most expensive variables in the equation:

- **No travel.** $0 expenses on site visits or facilities.
- **No recruitment.** Instant access to a pre-defined demographic pool.
- **No coding.** Auto-analysis of every response.

A single traditional survey costs more than a full year of the Dead/Set Index. With this platform, one concept test costs less than the team's coffee budget -- roughly $9-$15 per concept on the published plans.

---

## Pricing

All prices are in Australian Dollars (AUD), inclusive of GST where applicable, and billed per month. Annual billing on every tier saves about 35% versus monthly.

### Starter -- AUD $149 / month

- 10 purchase-intent analyses per month
- 200 human profiles, 400 responses per test
- ABS / US Census weighted cohort
- Custom demographics
- 200 detailed individual responses per test
- Demographic breakdowns
- Key drivers & barriers results
- Custom folders / projects
- Share results link
- Slide deck download
- Claude Connector access

### Professional -- AUD $299 / month (most popular)

Everything in Starter, plus:

- 25 purchase-intent analyses per month
- **A/B comparisons**
- **A/B/C/D/E multi-concept comparisons**

### Business -- AUD $899 / month

Everything in Professional, plus:

- 100 purchase-intent analyses per month

## Claude Connector (remote MCP server)

The Claude Connector lets Claude and Claude Code run purchase-intent analyses directly from a conversation. The user hands Claude a product concept; Claude submits the analysis, polls until complete, and returns the Dead/Set Index score, top drivers, and top barriers -- no copy/paste.

### Server URL

```
https://deadsetindex.com/mcp
```

### How to connect (Claude.ai)

1. Open Claude.ai → Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
2. Enter the server URL above.
3. Click Connect. Sign in with your Dead/Set Index account on the consent screen.
4. Ask Claude something like: *"Run a Dead/Set Index analysis on this concept: ..."*

Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and the MCP Inspector work the same way -- they use RFC 7591 Dynamic Client Registration so no manual credentials are required.

### Other supported clients

The connector speaks standard OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and Dynamic Client Registration, so any MCP-capable client works without per-client setup. Confirmed clients include Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code (GitHub Copilot Chat), Cline, Zed, Goose, Continue, and any tool that wraps a remote MCP server with the `mcp-remote` bridge (including OpenAI Codex CLI). Point the client at `/mcp`, complete the consent flow in your browser, and you are in.

### What Claude can do

The connector exposes seven tools:

- **submit_analysis** -- queues a purchase-intent run for a product concept. Accepts text up to 5,000 characters plus optional image URL and demographic filters (country, age bands, region). Returns an analysis ID.
- **get_analysis_status** -- polls analysis state (processing / completed / failed). Typical runs complete in 60-180 seconds.
- **get_analysis_progress** -- finer-grained progress with a running ETA, useful while an analysis is still processing.
- **get_analysis_results** -- returns the Dead/Set Index score, expected rating, rating distribution, top drivers, and top barriers.
- **list_analyses** -- paginated list of recent analyses, filterable by status, country, product-name substring, and created-date range.
- **get_subscription_status** -- returns the current tier, monthly quota, and remaining usage so Claude knows whether a submission will fit.
- **create_share_link** -- mints a public, unlisted share URL on deadsetindex.com for a completed analysis. Reuses an existing link if one already exists.

### Permissions

When the connector is approved, Claude is granted two scopes:

- **dead_set_index:analyze** -- submit new analyses against the user's quota.
- **dead_set_index:read** -- read analyses the user created (either via the connector or via the web app).

Claude cannot see analyses created by other users, cannot change account settings, cannot access billing information, and cannot trigger payments. The connector never uploads product images -- image attachments remain a web-UI feature.

### How to revoke

Access can be revoked at any time from Claude's Settings → Connectors panel. Revoking there invalidates the refresh token immediately; any access token Claude holds expires within one hour. The Dead/Set Index app's own Settings → Connectors page lists every connected client and lets the account owner disconnect any of them in one click.

## FAQ

**How accurate is this, really?**
The methodology was validated against over 9,000 real human respondents across 50+ products and achieves roughly 90% of human test-retest reliability. The Dead/Set Index measures stated purchase intent (also known as Top-Two-Box, or T2B), not actual sales behaviour, so treat it as a strong directional signal for product ranking decisions and iterative optimisation, not a sales forecast.

**Can personas actually replace real consumers?**
Legally, no -- and we don't claim they do. The Dead/Set Index replaces the $5K-$50K screening round, not the final validation. Use it to narrow 12 concepts down to 3, optimise messaging, and kill bad ideas before they reach a human panel. Then invest your real consumer research budget on the concepts that already have data behind them.

**What does the Dead/Set Index actually measure?**
Purchase intent -- the research-validated measure of whether consumers would buy your product. It produces a Dead/Set Index score (0-100) that tells you whether your concept is Dead, Kinda, or Set, with a clear tier label and an actionable signal. You get the score and the "so what."

**What products can I test?**
Any consumer product concept with a description, image, and price point. The key requirement is enough detail in the concept card for personas to form a genuine purchase opinion.

**How is this different from just running a survey?**
Speed and iteration. One survey round: 2-6 weeks, $5,000+. One full optimisation cycle (3 rounds): 6-18 weeks with traditional methods. With the Dead/Set Index, test in minutes, identify weak dimensions, change one variable, retest. Run 3-5 optimisation cycles in the time a single survey takes.

**Where does the Dead/Set Index fit in my process?**
After you have shaped a concept, before you launch. It replaces the initial traditional concept-testing step -- the go decision and the iterative refinement that follows. It does not do market discovery or post-launch tracking. It is purpose-built for one thing: testing whether a concept is ready.

**What do I get beyond the score?**
Every analysis breaks down purchase intent with detailed demographic splits, key drivers, and barriers. You see exactly which consumer segments are strongest, what is driving purchase decisions, and what is holding people back -- so you know what to fix, not just whether to fix it.
